Friction Lab

Page history last edited by Tolboom 10 years, 3 months ago

Objective: Determine the coefficient of kinetic friction between the surface of the lab desk and two different types of friction carts.

Materials: Friction Carts, Masses, Spring Scales, Digital Scale

You will be responsible for creating the procedure, collecting your data, writing up your lab and performing the analysis. Make sure the paper you turn in has the following parts:

  • Objective
  • Materials
  • Procedure
  • Data Table
  • Graph
  • Conclusion

Tips: Draw a FBD of the scenario and think about how you want to apply the force to ensure that the cart is moving at a constant velocity. Use various masses so that you can create a graph of Force of Friction vs. Normal Force. There are 1000 grams in a kilogram and to convert mass to weight you multiply by 9.8 m/s^2.
